Or Singles Awareness Day for all of you who want to be depressing.... just kidding!
At this time of the year, it is so easy to think about love. Who can help it when you walk into almost any store and your sight is bombarded with all this frilly things in millions of various shades of pink, red, and white? Not to mention just seeing people walking around holding hands or hearing about dinner plans for the night of the 14th.
I too have been doing that. A little while ago, I was thinking on the subject of love and relationships, and I had this sudden thought: Why do we want boyfriends (girlfriends, love, etc) so much? All this year, my friends and I have been talking about (and complaining) that we don't have boyfriends. But my thought was, Why do we want them so much?
Is it because having a boyfriend would be something new? A new experience? A change in our daily lives? Something different from how things are now?
Do we feel that we are entitled to have one?
Is it just because we want companionship? If so, why? We already have many friends - both girls and guys.
Is it because society says we should have already had multiple boyfriends by now? And since some of us haven't, we feel like we're loosers?
Is it because somewhere, deep down, we feel we aren't worthy or beautiful because no one - right now at least - wants to be with us intimately like that?
Is it because, as girls, we want to go through the hearbreak, anger, and confusions that heroines in movies and books go through?
If anyone has any thoughts, insight, or advice, feel free to comment.
